Damp Proof membrane job in Freshwater.

This Beautiful period property had terrible issues with damp, we hacked off the wall plaster, cleared the cavities and injected a new chemical damp proof course to stop the problem at source. Then installed a damp proof mesh membrane with plasterboard and a skim finish ready for redecoration, ensuring this grand old property is future proofed. Work completed in collaboration with JR Buckett & Sons.

The damp proofing work carried out by Aaron was of an exceptional standard. His preparation of the room and the surrounding areas were carefully protected and no damage occurred. He sent photos of the progress made and kept me regularly up to date. Aaron was fair and transparent with the costings of the work.

Benefits & Features of a Damp Proof Membrane:

  • Provides a surface that is totally separated and unaffected by the dampness within the wall, ensuring that the wall finish will never be affected by moisture or salts

  • Easy to 'Dot and Dab' straight onto, keeping the plasterboard away from damp brickwork.

  • Superb ‘key’ for renders or plasters

  • Completely moisture-resistant but allows vapor diffusion

  • Quick and easy to install

  • In many cases the existing render can be left on the wall

  • No requirement for damaging preparation to the wall surface

Floor Repairs and Damp Proofing in Ventnor

This 19th Century Property of stone construction had damp patches and rotting skirting boards due to a lack of ventilation and plasterboard stuck straight onto the solid stone walls with no protection. On closer inspection the floor joists and plates turned out to be rotten and full of woodworm too. To combat this, the damaged floor joists and plates were replaced with new treated timbers and 18mm chipboard, the rest of the floor was treated with an insecticide to protect from infestation and the flooring was laid back down. Once the floor had been repaired the damp proofing could begin. I started by removing the wet plasterboard and the damaged plaster, followed by a damp proof membrane, 12.5mm plasterboard and a skim finish. Two new 9 x 6 air bricks were installed on the outside wall to improve ventilation to the sub floor and ensure this property will stay dry and woodworm free from now on.

"Aaron clearly knows a lot about damp proofing and it gave us peace of mind to know that we had hired him to do the job. He was informative about the problem and solution and was keen to show his work throughout the process, explaining what he was doing and why. It's a daunting process stripping back the layers in an old house and as the scope of the work increased when we discovered woodworm, Aaron was always keen to keep additional work to a minimum whilst ensuring we had the best results. As well as the damp proofing, he plastered the walls, replaced half the floor and treated the rest for woodworm, installed new air bricks and removed all the rubble while tidying up daily. He was a pleasure to have in our home and clearly takes great pride in his work. We would recommend him without hesitation."
